day 1: PERUGIA
DAY 1: PERUGIA Check-in in hotel. Free time to relax. 7 p.m. Aperitifs and welcome dinner.
Breakfast in hotel. 9 a.m. Panicale rises on a hill dominating the Lake Trasimeno. We suggest you to visit The Church of St. Sebastian containes two valuable works by Perugino 12 a.m. Lunch in a restaurant near Trasimeno Lake where you will taste delicious local umbrian food. 3 p.m. Perugia and free city tour. Using modern escalators inside the unique Rocca Paolina Fortresse you will ride up to Corso Vannucci, the main pedestrian-only street of Perugia's fascinating medieval center, with its historical monuments like Palazzo dei Priori, Fontana Maggiore and the Cathedral of San Lorenzo. 7 p.m. Dinner in a typical restaurant. Return to hotel for overnight stay
Breakfast in hotel. 9 a.m. Assisi Free City tour to discover the history and the beauty of the birthplace of St.Francis including a visit to St.Francis's Basilica with its Giotto frescoes. 12 a.m. Lunch in local restaurant. 3 p.m. Spello is a very interesting town, thanks to the urban, architectural features and theprecious works of art that can be found here. This charming and ancient hamlet is conveniently situated near Perugia and Assisi, on the southern slopes of Mt. Subasio. It is know for its Infiorata, manifestation which takes place every year on the occasion of the Corpus Domini feast. On that night, almost a thousand people work incessantly to create carpets and pictures made of flowers along the narrow town’s streets. 5 p.m. Visit Montefalco a charming umbrian village which has excellent Benozzo Gozzoli and Pietro Vannucci (Il Perugino) frescoes. It is also famous for its excellent wines: Rosso di Montefalco and Sagrantino, one of Italy's finest. Visit to a cellar for a private wine-tasting. 7 p.m. Dinner in a restaurant in this charming village. Return to hotel for overnight stay
Breakfast in hotel. 9 a.m. Montecastello di Vibio is located near Todi. Visit to “Teatro della Concordia” the smallest theatre in the world (99 seats). 10 a.m. San Venanzo is a small center of medieval origins. The village traces its first human presence back to the Paleolithic period; a cache of bones and rock tools have been found, as well as an almost complete set of teeth from a sabre-toothed tiger. 1 p.m. Lunch in a local restaurant . 3 .p.m Visit to Todi, situated along the ancient border between the territories inhabited by the Etruscans and the Umbrians. You will fall in love with its beautiful hilltop position. Monuments you shouldn’t miss: the main square Piazza del Popolo, one of the most beautiful squares in Italy, Palazzo del Popolo, Palazzo del Capitano and Palazzo dei Priori. Tempio Santa Maria della Consolazione, a lovely Renaissance church 7 a.m. Return to Perugia for dinner and overnight stay.
Breakfast in hotel. 9 a.m. Visit to Montone, situated along a hilly ridge of the Upper Tiber Valley in a well-cultivated territory and covered with woods where mushrooms and truffles can be picked. Typical local products are wild berries, objects in wrought iron. 1 a.m. Lunch in a local restaurant. 3 p.m. Visit to Città di Castello, which offers more than just Pinturicchio, Rosso Fiorentino, Signorelli or Raffaello: this is Alberto Burri's city, one of the most important contemporary artists. 7 p.m. Dinner in a local restaurant. Return to hotel for overnight stay
Breakfast in hotel. 9 a.m. Visit to Gubbio, one of the oldest cities of Umbria, but extremely well-preserved during the centuries and rich in monuments that testify to its glorious past. Gubbio was made famous in the 16th century by Giorgio Andreoli, the inventor of ""lustre"" (the art of embellishing ceramics with special light-reflecting glazes). The many workshops along Gubbio streets offer a multitude of hand-made objects. 12 a.m. Lunch in a local restaurant with home-made pasta and selected local meats and truffles (in season). 3 p.m.Cooking class to learn the secrets of homade pasta and the other typical Umbrian dishes. 7 p.m. Dinner with regional specialities prepared by “students” Return to hotel in Perugia for overnight stay.
